What is Leonardo AI?
Launched in December 2022, Leonardo AI is an AI-powered content creation platform that specializes in text-to-image generation. With over 700 million images generated by more than 7 million users, it has evolved from a game asset generator to a comprehensive art tool that includes models for photorealism, anime, concept design, and more. Leonardo also supports image editing, upscaling, and basic video motion effects.
Getting started with Leonardo AI is super easy—and the best part? It’s completely free to sign up, and you don’t need a credit card.
Head to the Website
Go to leonardo.ai and hit the "Get Started" or "Launch App" button. If you're on your phone, you can download the official Leonardo AI app from the App Store or Google Play, and you’ll see the same sign-up screen when you open it.

If You’re Using Email
Enter your email address and set a password.
You’ll then get a verification code sent to your inbox. (If you don’t see it, check your spam/junk folder. It comes from contact@leonardo.ai.)
Pop that code into the box and you’re good to go.
Choose Your Username
You’ll be asked to pick a display name (something between 4–15 characters—underscores are allowed, but no spaces or weird symbols). This name will show up when you share your art.
That’s It—You’re In!
If you used Google or Apple, your account is set up automatically once you give permission. If you signed up with email, just finish the verification and you’re ready to roll.
Pro Tip: Remember which login method you used (Google vs. Email, etc.), since you’ll need to stick with that each time you sign in.
